Hello, I get an error when making a request to one of my customers
is this a bug in the system? any workarounds?
the error started 2023-01-01, worked fine 2022-12-31

Hi, have they generated financials periods for 2023 in their company ?
I can check that later, but I don't see why that should generate an error in the api?
because API is using the Customer Balance Report to retrieve the data based on the current fiscal year/period so that company you're sending the API request should have them defined.
